RAISING THE LEVEL OF ENVIRONMENTAL REPORTING IN EASTER EUROPE, CAUACAUA AND CENTRAL ASIA COUNTRIES
The joint project of Green Dossier and Stakeholders Forum for Our Common Future (the UK) to assist journalists in covering issues of the 5-th All-European ministerial conference «Environment for Europe» and its side-events (Kiev, May 2003). Apart from training on effective covering of environmental topics, the project provided news-shooting for TV-channels of Azerbaidzhan, Armenia, Belorussia, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, and as well an educational session concerning themes of the conference. The project started with a prior-conference information campaign by disseminating 5 issues of «Infonavigator» bulletin explaining main themes of the ministerial meeting, its documents and overviewing useful information sources. The information guide on the conference, issued under the project, turned to be practically the only printed aid for press on this international event. The project finished with making an evaluation research called “Mass-media and environmental policy”, which reflected the journalists’ needs as to organisation of media-work at this kind of conferences, analyzed mistakes both of journalists and information providers, that might be omitted in future.

ECOTOPIA-2003
Ecotopia is an annual meeting for youth interested in environmental and social issues. Several hundred people (Ecotopia-2003 hosted 400 participants) get together for two weeks to create their ideal society, non-pollutive, egalitarian, and just.
Ecotopians enjoy vegan food, environmentally friendly transport and behaviors, for example, they sort garbage and use compost toilets. Ecotopia is also remarkable for operating on the "Ecorate" system. It is an alternative economic system based on living standards and income of people in different countries having different purchasing power. The challenge is to balance out the differences in economic wealth between different countries.
Ecotopia is “an invention” of the international network European Youth for Action (EYFA). Ecotopia has taken place in 13 countries both of Eastern and Western Europe: France, Czech Republic, Holland, Hungary, Scotland, Germany, Romania, Findland, Bulgaria, Ireland.
This year «Green dossier» has become EYFA’s partner in hosting Ecotopia in Ukraine (Sheshory village, Kosiv region, Ivano-Frankivsk oblast). The site of the camp was chosen to help a development of green tourism in the region and attract wide public attention to local environmental problems – wood cuttings and illegal waste dumps.

SHESHORY-2003
The first in Ukraine Festival of ethnic music „Sheshory-2003” (August 27-28, Sheshory village) gathered about 1,5 people from all over Ukraine and many countries of Eastern and Western Europe.
The Festival idea is to get together the musicians from hard-to-access Carpathian villages, who saved ancient musical instruments and art to play them, and modern music bands using different folk motives. Both days of the festival started with archaic melodies, but during the day the music was becoming modern. In the first night the public was driven by a cocktail of electronic music and real drums presented by Russian band “DUBro” from Moscow. In the second day that was a Ukrainian band „Perkalaba” well-known both in Western Ukraine and in Europe.
„Sheshory-2004” festival will be somewhat different. It's planned to present not only Ukrainian groups, but to invite musicians from Britain, Japan and, of course, from countries participating in the Carpathian convention.
